Our Local Honey

Our honey is guaranteed local honey from our “Walking Acres Bee Yard” in Aiken. It is raw honey, and it is never heated and never filtered. It is sold exclusively since 1998 by “Southside Produce” on 750 East Pine Log Road in Aiken. James Shuford, the owner of Southside Produce calls our honey the Cadillac of Aiken honeys. For availability call: (803) 649-4800. Over the years, our honey was judged consistently with first, second and third places in the “light amber” class at the SC Beekeepers Association Summer meeting. One year it was judged “Best of Show” of all classes.
Pure Beeswax Candles and Ornaments

We produce candles, nativity scenes and seasonal ornaments. We use only the wax rendered from our own hives, which is free of  insecticides and pesticides. Our wax is never bleached or treated in any other way, it is pure bees wax rendered with the means of a solar wax melter. The color of the wax depends on the age of the honey comb it comes from. We create our candles, nativity figures and ornaments for the local market and only upon request.

What is Local Honey?

Local honey is what you believe it is. To know what it is, you need to know your local beekeeper. There is a lot of honey sold as “local” which has nothing in common with the area you live in. Most likely you are taking local honey to help you with your pollen allergies. Honey contains small amounts of pollen from the plants the honey bees visited.  If taken on a regular basis, local honey may help you with your allergic reactions. However the source of pollen in the honey has to match the type of vegetation of the area you live in. So, before you buy local honey to treat your allergy, do your homework: read the label and find out, where the the honey comes from and where the bees are actually located. One more thing: one jar during allergy season will not do the trick, you need to take honey year round, but one teaspoon a day is enough. Put it in your tea, smoothy or add it to your granola. It is not hard to make it a habit.
